Sample Opt Out Letter
Dear Principal ___________,
Please be advised that my child ____________________ will not participate in any standardized testing during the current school year. This includes the following tests I understand the district will administer this year that my child may be subject to:
According to the Department of Education, it is a parent or guardian’s choice to exclude a child from standardized testing, and I am exercising that right. In my opinion, school should be a place where discovery happens. So much happens at school that shapes our children’s tomorrows and no bubble test can measure a kid’s curiosity. We must instill a love of learning, foster creativity, and teach critical thinking skills not increase student anxiety with continued test taking. I have trust in teachers’ skills and support public education. Therefore, I request no record of testing be part of my child’s permanent file.
